Details: The seventh annual ruralnet|uk conference. A two-day event once again consisting of workshops, plenary sessions, networking, and debate, over key issues affecting our rural communities. This year we consider who should take responsibility for “doing” rather than “planning to do” in rural areas, with particular emphasis on carbon emission reduction and collective action. Img_0378The closing session of the ruralnet|2006 conference once again demonstrated the innovative nature of this event.

Professor Michael Dower, University of Gloucestershire and Gordon Morris, a freelance writer and researcher took on the role of council for defence and prosecution respectively. In a 40 minute court room drama they eloquently argued a case where rural regeneration agencies were charged with:”Exaggerating the issue of rural deprivation”.

Hebditch_1Simon Hebditch, CEO of Capacitybuilders, will address the Rural Development Conference, ruralnet|2006, in Nottinghamshire on 11 October.

As opening keynote speaker at this important annual event, Simon will be outlining his vision for how Capacitybuilders will be supporting the rural voluntary sector. In the light of the recent review of the National Hubs, this plenary session is expected to be of particular interest to the media and delegates alike.

Market_1‘Exploiting Your Rural Capital - New Perspectives on Rural Assets’ will be the theme for ruralnet|2006.

Hosted by rural regeneration charity, ruralnet|uk, the annual conference is to be held in the East Midlands on 11-12 October, with support from East Midlands Development Agency (emda). The event will debate the importance of community, as well as economic resources for sustainability and social inclusion.

This year’s supplement: ‘Building Capitals for Communities’ will focus on the experiences of market towns in the East Midlands as the foundation for rural regeneration.

The ruralnet|2005 conference, “Expanding Contracting - How to Thrive in the New Contract Culture” was held on 12-13 October 2005 in Bramhope, Yorkshire. This two-day event consisted of workshops, plenary sessions, networking, and debate, exploring how the success of the community and voluntary sector in the delivery of services to vulnerable people, communities and businesses is now recognised not only by government, but at all levels. The keynote speaker was Geraldine Peacock, Chair of the Charity Commission. There was a morning supplement on the Post Office – a Case Study in Positive Rural Action.
